How to Improve Your Google Maps Ranking

When someone searches for a business or place near their location, they’ll find local results across Google within the search results – either within the Local Pack or Maps.

You might find that your business doesn’t show up for relevant searches in your area and although this is based on a few different factors (location being one) there are ways to improve your local visibility.

Now if you haven’t already, you’ll need to create a Google My Business listing. Here’s how.

Enter Complete Data

Local results will favour the most relevant results for each search. This means that having a listing containing complete and accurate information will have a higher chance of showing for relevant searches. Make sure you provide information like your address, phone number, business description, website link, categories and attributes.

Keep your opening hours accurate

Make sure your open times are reflective of your actual business hours including any special opening hours (such as bank holidays). This will let users know you’re available and they are able to visit your business or contact you.

Show you’re active with Google Posts

Google Posts are surprisingly underestimated in their ability to help boost your local listings. Posts are low-effort tasks but can help keep your listing up to date and relevant. Already posting to social media? Add your message to GMB too.

Add photos

Help showcase your business and tell a story about your team by adding accurate and attractive photos to your listing. This will also go a long way in showing online users you are a legitimate business.

Generate and respond to reviews

A factor that will influence how your map listing displays is the number of reviews you have. Encourage your customers to leave public reviews and make sure to respond to any feedback you have. High quality, positive reviews will improve how visible your business is and help to encourage customers to contact or visit you.

Optimise your website

Google will also rely on the information about your from other online sources, your website being a huge source of information! Make sure your website is optimised using Local SEO practices and this will not only increase your positioning but allow your listing to show for a larger range of searches.
