Google Page Speed Update for Mobile

What’s Changing?

Big news just in from Google (the ones that process over 40,000 search queries every second on average). The Speed Update is coming! Your site being mobile friendly isn’t enough.  It also needs to be quick like the flash after his first coffee of the day.

The Nitty Gritty

This starts July 2018 and isn’t completely new. Desktop speed has been used in ranking for some time now but as mobile has become the searcher’s device of choice, it’s time to show these users the quick pages first to satisfy their queries first.

Google report in the update that “People want to be able to find answers to their questions as fast as possible — studies show that people really care about the speed of a page.” Given this and the trend toward mobile then, it makes sense to implement this update and knock those sites that waste our time loading to the bottom.

The speed update is just one of a wide range of ranking factors. To find out more about getting your site to rank well on Google and other organic search engines, contact us today.

It’s generally a big deal when Google announces changes to how the ranking algorithm works, especially to us here at Echo as it directly impacts what it is we do. This is good news if you’re one of our clients as you’re safe in the knowledge we know our stuff. We already ensure all of our clients’ sites are mobile optimised and constantly work to help them meet the minimum speed requirements to rank well.

So is your page ready for the Speed Update?  If you’re worried you’ve got a bit too much time to stand around scratching your head while your site is loading on your phone, stop what you’re doing and call us now on 01733 286 646!
